Hospice of the Valleys Named as Prestigious 2021 Hospice Honors Elite Recipient

Murrieta, CA – Hospice of the Valleys has been named a 2021 Hospice Honors Elite recipient by HEALTHCAREfirst, a leading provider of billing and coding services, CAHPS surveys, and advanced analytics. This prestigious annual review recognizes agencies that continuously provide the highest level of quality care as measured from the caregiver’s point of view. It acknowledges the highest performing agencies by analyzing the performance of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) hospice survey satisfaction measures.

Out of 160 hospice agencies in California, Hospice of the Valleys is the only hospice to receive Elite Status. Nationwide, 58 hospice agencies out of 1,328 received this impressive recognition. Award criteria were based on Hospice CAHPS survey results for an evaluation period of October 2019 through September 2020. Award recipients were identified by evaluating performance on a set of 24 quality indicator measures. Performance scores were aggregated from all patient family members completed surveys and were compared on a question-by-question basis to a National Performance Score calculated from all hospices contained in the HEALTHCAREfirst’s Hospice CAHPS database. Hospice Honors recipients include those hospices scoring above the HEALTHCAREfirst National Performance Score on 20 of the evaluated questions. HEALTHCAREfirst holds a special recognition, Hospice Honors Elite, to honor hospices scoring above the HEALTHCAREfirst National Performance Score on all 24 of the evaluated questions.

Though we were faced with the challenges of providing care during such unprecedented times due to the COVID pandemic, our dedicated and highly skilled team of frontline nurses, social workers, chaplains, home health aides, and physicians did not lose focus of our mission to provide the best end of life care for our patients and families. Their overwhelming commitment to make sure they were there our patients and families helped to ensure our community received the best end of life care possible. We are truly thankful and proud of the work our team has done during these challenging times,” said Hospice of the Valleys’ Executive Medical Director, Dr. Leslee B. Cochrane.

Hospice of the Valleys’ Administrator / Director of Nursing, Marta Sarver-Martinez, shared, “This award represents the voice of our patients’ loved ones and we are truly humbled to receive their recognition of our frontline workers’ dedication and care.”

Menifee Crime Watch honors Hospice of the Valleys as fund recipient

Hospice of the Valleys has been awarded funds from Menifee Crime Watch, as their local chapter has concluded. The Menifee Crime Watch (previously Sun City Crime Watch) played a vital role within the Menifee Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff Department. Staffed by volunteers that provided crime deterrence and preventions in the area, Menifee Crime Watch’s work included high-visibility patrols, help with DUI checkpoints, community events, crime scene and traffic collision response, as well as fulfilled requests for house checks when residents were on vacation. They were a very dedicated group of individuals who wanted to make a difference in their community. While unfortunate that Menifee Crime Watch’s work has ended, Hospice of the Valleys appreciates the opportunity to be considered a recipient of funding. The funds received from Menifee Crime Watch will be ear-marked specifically for Menifee patient care expenses not covered by insurance. Unfunded care includes items such as bereavement support, medication delivery so the patient’s family does not need to go to a pharmacy to pick up medications, uncovered medical equipment or supplies such as incontinence supplies, the We Honor Veterans program, and hospice care should the patient be uninsured or underinsured.

Past Hospice of the Valleys’ Board Member and longtime supporter, Bob O’Donnell has also been a part of Menifee Crime Watch since 2012. “I’m so happy that when Menifee Crime Watch was finishing up our work, we were able to give to Hospice of the Valleys, a nonprofit hospice that started right here in Sun City. We are pleased to be able to support their important work in our community”, said O’Donnell. Anthony Christopher, current Hospice of the Valleys board member, and past board member at Menifee Crime Watch said, “I’ve been honored to serve on the board of both organizations. It was important for Menifee Crime Watch to support an organization like Hospice of the Valleys- a nonprofit that was started in Sun City and has served the community since 1982.”
